Resident Evil 8, also known as Resident Evil Village, is a survival horror game that continues the story of Ethan Winters, the protagonist from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The game opens with Ethan living a peaceful life with his wife Mia and their baby daughter Rose, after surviving the traumatic events of the previous game. However, this peace is quickly shattered when Chris Redfield, a long-standing character in the series, suddenly appears, kills Mia, and kidnaps Ethan and Rose. Ethan wakes up after the attack in a mysterious Eastern European village, where he begins his desperate journey to find his daughter.

The village is surrounded by dark forests, icy mountains, and eerie ruins, creating a chilling and atmospheric setting. As Ethan explores the area, he discovers that the village is plagued by horrifying creatures, including werewolves and other mutated beings. These monsters are controlled by four powerful lords, each ruling over a different part of the region. The most iconic of them is Lady Dimitrescu, a tall, vampiric noblewoman who lives in a gothic castle with her daughters. Each lord has their own terrifying domain, from a haunted dollhouse to a mechanical factory.
As Ethan defeats each of the four lords, he uncovers more about the origins of the monsters and the mysterious figure controlling everything: Mother Miranda. She is a god-like figure worshipped by the villagers and is responsible for experimenting on people using a mold-based bioweapon. It is revealed that Rose possesses special powers due to her parents’ connection to the mold, and Miranda plans to use Rose in a ritual to bring back her own dead daughter.

Throughout the game, Ethan displays incredible determination and bravery, facing terrifying creatures and enduring extreme physical pain. Eventually, he confronts Mother Miranda and sacrifices himself to save Rose and ensure her safety. Before dying, Ethan learns the truth about himself—he was killed during the events of the previous game and revived by the mold, which explains his unusual ability to survive serious injuries.
Resident Evil 8 blends action, horror, and mystery in a story that is both emotional and terrifying. With its cinematic visuals, tense atmosphere, and compelling characters, it feels like a horror movie brought to life. The game ends with hope, as Rose is saved, but also raises new questions, hinting that the nightmare may not be completely over.
