Several years have passed since Miguel’s unforgettable journey to the Land of the Dead. Now a talented teenager, he has become one of the most beloved musicians in Santa Cecilia. The Rivera family, once opposed to music, now proudly celebrates it as a part of their heritage. However, Miguel begins to struggle with balancing fame, tradition, and his own identity. When he discovers an old letter hidden inside one of Ernesto de la Cruz’s forgotten journals, he learns about a mysterious musician named Lucía who may be connected to his family’s past.
One night, during Día de los Muertos, Miguel feels the familiar pull of the marigold bridge calling him back. Guided once again by the music of his guitar, he crosses into the Land of the Dead, where he reunites with his great-great-grandmother Imelda, Hector, and the rest of his ancestors. They welcome him warmly, but the realm is changing. The vibrant afterlife is slowly losing its light as people in the living world begin to forget their traditions. Miguel learns that Lucía, the spirit of a forgotten singer, may hold the key to restoring the connection between both worlds.

Together with Héctor and Dante the loyal spirit guide, Miguel embarks on a journey through the deepest corners of the Land of the Dead to find Lucía. Along the way, he discovers that Lucía was a close friend of Héctor’s in life and helped inspire some of his earliest songs. However, because she was never properly remembered, her spirit is fading. Determined to save her, Miguel decides to bring her story back to the world of the living.

Back in Santa Cecilia, Miguel performs Lucía’s lost song during the Día de los Muertos celebration, honoring her memory and the countless forgotten souls who once brought music to life. The town joins in, lighting candles and filling the night with music and color. The marigold petals glow brighter than ever, and the bridge between worlds becomes stronger again.
In the end, Coco 2 celebrates the timeless bond between memory and music. It reminds us that remembering others keeps them alive, and that love—like a song—can echo through generations, uniting the living and the dead in harmony.
