In Tomb Raider II, Lara Croft embarks on a thrilling quest for the legendary Dagger of Xian, a weapon said to grant its wielder the power to transform into a dragon by plunging it into their heart. Once wielded by a tyrannical Dragon Emperor, the dagger was stolen by Tibetan monks and hidden within the Great Wall of China to prevent its misuse .
Lara arrives at the Great Wall and navigates a labyrinth of traps, puzzles, and even encounters with two Tyrannosaurus Rexes guarding the jade-laden inner chambers. Her progress is disrupted by an Italian cultist from Fiamma Nera, who fatally wounds himself and reveals that his master, Marco Bartoli, also seeks the dagger—and that Lara must follow him to Venice to uncover further clues

Traveling to Venice, Lara infiltrates a dilapidated opera house and stows away on a seaplane. She learns of a key artifact called the Seraph that will unlock the path to the dagger’s hidden chamber; however, she is captured and taken to an offshore oil rig. There, she meets a Tibetan monk fighting to keep the Seraph out of Bartoli’s hands. After a narrow escape, Lara dives into the sea in a submersible to salvage the Seraph from the wreck of the Maria Doria, the sunken liner belonging to Bartoli’s father.
With the Seraph in hand, Lara heads to Tibet, surviving a plane malfunction that forces her to parachute into harsh mountain terrain. She uses a snowmobile and teams up with monks at Barkhang Monastery, fending off mercenaries and surviving mythical threats like yetis and a giant bird guardian called the Talion. Securing the Talion key, she races back to the Great Wall to access the dagger’s chamber—but is trapped when Bartoli arrives first

Inside the Dragon’s Temple lies the final confrontation. As Bartoli stabs himself with the dagger and transforms into a massive dragon within the magical realm of floating jade islands, Lara fights fiercely, ultimately seizing the dagger from his heart and collapsing the temple around them. She escapes and returns home, only to face one last attack by Bartoli’s followers—before breaking the fourth wall with a cheeky quip while grabbing her shower.
This side-scrolling, globe-spanning adventure captures everything that made the original Tomb Raider II game a fan favorite: exotic locales, mythic lore, fierce combat, intricate puzzles, and a tenacious heroine who can handle anything—be it dinosaurs, cultists, or dragons.
