Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes 2 (2025) -Owen Teague

The film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) presents a bold new chapter in the long-running Apes franchise, placing us many generations after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes and imagining a world in which apes are the dominant species and humans have been relegated to the margins of society.  The story focuses on a young chimpanzee named Noa, whose life in a peaceful ape clan is suddenly shattered when a tyrannical ruler, Proximus Caesar, launches an attack on his people.

Forced to flee his destroyed home, Noa embarks on a journey of awakening: he questions the assumptions of his society, uncovers secrets of the past, and strives to enact change not just for his clan but for all apes and humans alike. Along the way he forges an unlikely alliance with Mae, a human woman, which challenges the division and animosity that have defined ape-human relations for centuries.  Visually, the film is striking: thousands of effects shots were used to build this world, allowing for sweeping landscapes, expressive motion-captured performances, and richly detailed ape societies.

Though the premise is epic, the film also explores intimate themes: the burden of legacy, the cost of power, the fragility of freedom, and the possibility of reconciliation. Noa’s arc from a sheltered clan member to a catalyst of change speaks to larger questions about how societies evolve and how individuals can reshape their destinies. The narrative captures an atmosphere of tension and hope, as the established order faces internal decay and external threats.

That said, the film has drawn mixed commentary in terms of its execution: while its visuals and ambition have been praised, some critics felt that it lacked the sharper tensions of its predecessors, particularly the human-vs-ape conflict central to earlier entries.  On the commercial side, the movie opened strongly, dominating the North American box office in its opening weekend and demonstrating that the franchise still retains considerable appeal.

In summary, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes delivers a grand vision of a transformed world—one in which the consequences of past revolutions are being lived out across generations. It’s a film that challenges the audience to consider the nature of dominance, the meaning of leadership, and the possibility of new paths forward. For fans of the series and newcomers alike, the film offers spectacle, emotional stakes, and a fresh vantage point on a familiar saga.
