Millie Calloway is a young woman with a troubled past who is trying hard to rebuild her life. She recently left prison, with few options and limited means, and so when she hears about a job working as a live‑in housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family, she sees it as a chance to escape her difficulties.
The Winchester household seems like the dream job at first. Millie is hired by Nina Winchester, and the conditions appear generous: she is given a place to live in their large mansion, under the impression that she might finally have stability. But there are hints early on that not all is as it seems. For example, the room Millie lives in is in the attic, and it has a lock that only locks from the outside, which is unsettling.

As Millie settles in, she starts to pick up on strange behavior and hidden tensions among the Winchesters. Nina, in particular, shows a dual nature: welcoming in some moments, unnervingly volatile in others. She also meets other characters who add complexity: Andrew Winchester, Nina’s husband; Cecelia, their daughter; Enzo, the groundskeeper; and Evelyn, Andrew’s mother. The dynamics between them slowly reveal that the “perfect family” image is maintained with effort, secrets, and possibly deception.
Millie herself has secrets, however, and the film teases that her past may be more dangerous or complicated than what Nina and the Winchesters expect. Because each of the characters seems to be hiding something, suspicion builds: who is manipulating whom, and who is really in control of the house’s narrative?

Tone‑wise, The Housemaid leans heavily into psychological thriller territory, using tension, secrets, and unexpected twists to unsettle the viewer. Modes of guilt, shame, power, and class also play important roles: Millie is socially vulnerable, and the wealthy family has status but also pressure to appear perfect. These tensions create a setting ripe for revelations.
Although the full resolution is not yet revealed, the film promises to explore how the characters’ dark pasts intersect, and how what seems like salvation (the housemaid job) may instead trap Millie in something far more dangerous. The release date is set for December 19, 2025 in the U.S., and many anticipate that by the end of the story, the real “monster” may not be who the audience first suspects.
