Wonder Woman 3 (2025) – First Trailer

A new installment in the Wonder Woman saga is quietly taking shape, albeit far from how fans had originally envisioned in the earlier DC Universe. The third standalone film—commonly referred to as Wonder Woman 3—is not following the previous narrative arc. Instead, James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has confirmed that a fresh version of Wonder Woman is being written from scratch, signaling a bold reset under the emerging DC Universe (DCU) vision.

This reboot marks a departure from the Gal Gadot era. Although Gadot’s portrayal of Diana Prince in the earlier films was widely celebrated, DC Studios has made clear that she will not return for this new chapter. The character is being reimagined, with no casting announced yet.

The creative framework for this reboot is still in flux. Ana Nogueira, known for her work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is currently attached to write the script, although no director has been confirmed. James Gunn has emphasized that while the project is a priority, it is not being rushed; production will only move forward once the script meets their standards.

The cancellation of the originally planned Wonder Woman 3—which was intended to close the trilogy directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot—came as a surprise to many. Although a script had been completed, the project was ultimately shelved because it no longer aligned with Gunn and Peter Safran’s new direction for the DCU.

Despite the setback, Wonder Woman remains a foundational figure in the refreshed DC Universe. Alongside Superman, Supergirl, and Batman, Gunn has named her as one of the four pillar characters vital to the franchise’s future. Her role in the DCU may be reintroduced through different formats, such as the Paradise Lost series—a prequel exploring Themyscira’s politics and mythos—or through this new standalone film.

Ultimately, this new chapter for Wonder Woman is not just a continuation—it’s a reinvention. While fans wait eagerly for more details, this project promises to redefine Diana Prince for a new generation, weaving her legacy into the evolving tapestry of DC’s cinematic universe.
